Swannee's Return to Racing - From the Depths of Illness and Injury

After shoulder surgery, a strange illness, recalcitrant plantar fasciitis, heel surgery with complications, another bout with the flu - its time for me to get back in the training saddle - with a focus on XTERRA, enduro mountain biking then onto some fall AR, trail running races and more.

A small bump in the road....

Bill Swann - Friday, December 11, 2009
Sunday morning before Thanksgiving I found myself in the emergency room with "exquisite pain", vomiting, etc. KIDNEY STONES.
The KS eventually were extracted in a really fun procedure the day before Thanksgiving as I had had enough of floor thumping, vomit inducing pain.
I got some decent rides in that weekend and some afterward but the weather has been pretty sucky - THEN - Soleus strain...no running. Translation - pain in my calf - so, no running. I finally figured out why and should be able to get back to running - :20 minutes - next Wed (Dec 16).
In the meantime - I split my head open in a "training accident". I have resistance bands that I use in my hotel rooms when I travel for work. I've been doing this for well over a year. This particular door didn't want to hold so the band slapped me in the head, ears and chest and I ended up bleeding from my head all over the hotel room at 5:30 in morning with appoinments and inservices scheduled for later in the day.I got the bleeding stopped and had a friend (local car mechanic- hahahaha - psych - no, really - an ER doc looked at it and said I would live but sutures may help but I defered).
Now - back on antibiotics due to a severe sore throat.
I WILL BE RACING NEXT YEAR; this is always the toughest part - coming back from injury & illness. Persistence & patience is the key - one thing I've been lacking in but am developing nicely.
Keep training hard - its much safer that way - see you on the trails.
